Refrigerator air filters help reduce odors and keep your fridge smelling fresh by trapping airborne particles. Replacing the air filter regularly ensures it continues working effectively. Most refrigerator models make it easy to change the filter yourself.
Follow these general steps:
Step 1: Locate the Air Filter Compartment
The air filter is usually found inside the fridge compartment — often near the top, back wall, or side panel. Look for a small cover labeled “Air Filter” or consult your owner’s manual for the exact location.
Step 2: Open the Filter Cover
Depending on the design, the filter cover may twist off, snap open, or slide out. Carefully open or remove the cover to access the filter inside.
Step 3: Remove the Old Air Filter
Take out the used air filter. It may be held in place with clips or a simple push-fit design. Discard the old filter according to your local waste guidelines.
Step 4: Install the New Filter
Insert the new air filter into the compartment, making sure it’s positioned correctly. Many filters are shaped to fit one way only. Close or snap the cover back into place securely.
Step 5: Reset the Filter Indicator (If Applicable)
Some refrigerators have a filter change reminder light or indicator. If yours does, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to reset it after replacing the filter.
