Your range hood filter captures grease, smoke, and cooking odors—helping keep your kitchen air cleaner and your appliances running efficiently. Over time, these filters can become clogged with buildup and should be cleaned or replaced regularly, depending on the type.
Follow these simple steps to replace a disposable range hood filter:
Step 1: Turn Off the Range Hood
For safety, make sure the fan and lights are turned off before you begin.
Step 2: Locate the Filter
Most range hood filters are located underneath the hood, directly above the stove or cooktop. They are usually rectangular or round and made of aluminum mesh, charcoal, or stainless steel.
Step 3: Remove the Old Filter
Look for latches, tabs, or spring clips that hold the filter in place. Slide or pop the filter out gently. Some filters may simply drop out once released.
Step 4: Determine the Filter Type
If it’s a reusable metal mesh filter, you may be able to clean it with soap and water. If it’s a charcoal or composite filter, it is designed to be replaced and not washed. Check your filter type to be sure.
Step 5: Clean the Housing (Optional but Recommended)
Wipe the inside of the range hood and the filter slot with a damp cloth to remove grease or residue before installing the new filter.
Step 6: Install the New Filter
Slide or snap the new filter into place. Make sure it is secure and properly aligned with any tabs or clips.
Step 7: Test the Range Hood
Turn the fan and light back on to make sure everything is working properly and the filter is firmly in place.
