Shower filters help reduce chlorine, sediment, and other contaminants in your water—improving skin and hair health and reducing irritation. Like any filter, they need to be replaced regularly to stay effective.
Follow these simple steps to change your shower filter:
Step 1: Turn Off the Water
Make sure the shower is turned off completely. If the filter or showerhead has recently been used, let it cool down before handling.
Step 2: Unscrew the Filter Housing
Most shower filters are either inline (between the shower arm and the showerhead) or built into the showerhead itself. Twist the filter housing counterclockwise to detach it. You may need a towel or rubber grip if it's tight.
Step 3: Remove the Old Filter Cartridge
Open the housing and take out the used filter cartridge. Some filters may fall out easily; others may need a gentle tap or shake. Dispose of the old cartridge properly.
Step 4: Rinse the Housing (Optional but Recommended)
Before inserting the new filter, rinse the inside of the housing with water to remove any residue or buildup. You can also wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
Step 5: Insert the New Filter
Place the new filter cartridge into the housing. Make sure it's aligned correctly—most filters only fit one way. Check the instructions on the packaging if unsure.
Step 6: Reassemble and Tighten the Housing
Screw the filter housing or showerhead back onto the shower arm. Turn it clockwise by hand until it's snug. Avoid over-tightening to prevent damage.
Step 7: Turn On the Water and Check for Leaks
Turn the shower on and let the water run for a few minutes to flush the new filter. Check for any leaks around the housing and tighten slightly if needed.
